    Is it compulsory to appear for all 5 subjects for JEE Advanced?

    i wanted to know that my brother has already paased the 12th boards in yr.2012 but he was unable to score minimum marks required to be eligible in iit-jee.he will be appearing for his improvement exams this session for physics,chemistry and maths,i.e. for 3 subjects.if you can please help me out to know whether it is compulsory for him to appear in all the 5 subjects in boards to become eligible for iit-jee entrance exams.please provide me with a solution asap and oblige.
